Amelia and Maria’s engagement session felt like a burst of color, warmth, and joy. Set in Palm Springs and centered around their rescue pup Pasta, this session was playful, candid, and unapologetically them. As Los Angeles wedding photographers, we love engagement sessions that feel like a snapshot of real life, not a rehearsal for the wedding day.
This one felt like sunshine, laughter, and desert air in the best way.
A Love Story Built on Friendship and Community
Amelia and Maria met through a large group of queer friends and spent nearly a year as friends before their relationship turned into something more. Almost three years later, they’re planning a wedding that reflects the life they’ve intentionally built together, rooted in community, shared values, and a lot of fun.
Maria moved from Long Island to Southern California in 2021, Amelia is originally from Alabama and raised in Carlsbad. Their personalities balance each other beautifully. Amelia loves pink, snowboarding, sneakers, and her record collection. Maria loves black, pilates, being in the sun, skincare rituals, tiramisu, and maintains very high standards for pizza and bagels.
Together, they love camping, beaches, national parks, drag brunch, concerts, craft beer, cocktails, and hosting their friends. Their goal is simple and solid: buy a house in a queer-friendly city, keep dating each other, and keep building a life they love.
Palm Springs, Color, and Pasta
Palm Springs was the perfect backdrop for their engagement session. The color, architecture, and desert light matched their vision exactly: fine-art inspired, bright and bold, with lots of candid movement and laughter.
And then there’s Pasta. Their almost two-year-old pitbull mix, pride and joy, and unofficial star of the session. While Pasta won’t be attending the wedding, she’ll be everywhere in spirit, from cocktail napkins to drink stirrers, so it felt only right to center her during this chapter.
The session moved easily between playful moments, quiet connection, and bursts of laughter. Nothing forced. Nothing overly posed. Just joy, color, and personality.

They were drawn to how every couple in our portfolio feels distinct, and that guided the way we approached their session. The result feels like a “Lesbian Oasis” in the desert, joyful, warm, and full of life.
Looking Ahead to Their Millwick Wedding
Amelia and Maria will be getting married at Millwick in Downtown Los Angeles. After exploring our Millwick wedding galleries, they knew it was the right fit for their celebration.
Their wedding will bring together their love of color, community, and meaningful details, including nods to Pasta throughout the day.
